Everything You Need To Know About E-Commerce Marketing
Quite obviously, the purpose of this blog is to summarise everything you need to know about E-commerce marketing. But, because of the topic's relatively low visibility among the masses, let us begin by covering the very basics of E-commerce marketing.
What Is E-Commerce?
Electronic commerce or e-commerce is a business model that lets companies and individuals buy and sell things over the internet. It means buying and selling of goods, products, or services over the internet. E-commerce is also known as internet commerce. These services are commonly provided online over the internet network. Not only buying and selling of goods but the transaction of money, funds, and data are also considered as E-commerce. The four ways by which transactions through E-commerce could be done are:
1.Business To Business (B2B)
Transactions in which two companies are doing business with each other is called B2B. The consumer is not involved at all. So the online transactions involving only the manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, etc., are called Business to Business transactions.
2.Business To Customer (B2C)
As the name suggests, in B2C, the companies sell their products directly to the consumers. There are no middlemen involved. The consumer can browse online websites and look at products, pictures and read customer reviews. Then as they place their order the company ships the goods directly to them. Popular examples are Amazon, Flipkart, eBay etc.
3.Customer To Customer (C2C)
In Customer to Customer business model, the consumers are in direct contact with each other. Companies or middlemen are not involved. It helps people to sell their goods and products online directly to an interested party. Generally, products like electronic equipment, books and other such products are sold online in this business model. Examples are Quickr, Olx, etc.
4.Customer To Business (C2B)
This business model is exactly opposite to the Business to Consumer ( B2C ) model. In this model, it is the customers who create this value for the businesses to consume. Examples are individuals who write blogs for websites and an IT freelancer who sells his software to a company
E-Commerce Marketing:
In the past, when commerce meant buying and selling of goods in retail and wholesale stores situated across the country, marketing involved advertising the store to a number of potential customers within the vicinity. But now, with the advent of the world wide web, the internet has completely taken over commerce. Everything is e-commerce now and e-commerce marketing is all about generating as much traffic as possible to the client's online website. E-Commerce is the act of generating awareness towards a business and driving potential customers to action in the online portal through which the business sells its goods.
Types Of E-Commerce Marketing:
There are several types of e-commerce marketing practised in the industry today. They are:
2.Social Media Marketing:
Social media is a fast-growing community of groups of people that continually change the way people interact with brands online. Prominent social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are favourable places for companies looking to build their brands amongst the masses. For example, Facebook's algorithm allows companies to showcase their products to interested consumers repeatedly. This is a great tool for e-commerce marketers who aim to acquire visibility for their products.
2.Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
is the scientific art of optimizing the client's website around specific keywords in order to rank higher in search results of search engines such as Google and Bing. Even though SEO has the highest Return Of Investment in any eCommerce marketing campaign, most e-commerce marketers opt to ignore this extensive research-based marketing strategy. SEO only requires the highest effort at the beginning. Once the website is ranked on a search engine, traffic can be generated automatically, with no virtual effort from the marketers.
3.Content Marketing:
It is commonly known in the e-commerce circles that content marketing is the best way to market a product to an audience. Through content such as blog posts, infographics and videos, the marketers are able to easily establish a connection with their target audience. Content Marketing is also called Inbound Marketing, where the consumers approach the business owners based on the content that we put out. It is much better than Outbound Marketing where we are supposed to approach the consumers to sell our products.
